New Goals!
We're excited to be heading into 2024 for what promises to be some new live shows at a new McAllen TX venue called La Cueva. Fingers crossed that we can usher out an updated 2024 setlist and possibly a newly written song!

Our appearances have been bouncing back and forth in McAllen TX & Harlingen TX. We've played three shows in the McAllen area and definitely want to increase it this coming 2024. Furthermore, an Alamo TX outdoor venue is another likely candidate for some new appearances. How cool is that?!

2024 also has our sights on completing a new EP. Recording and producing has its quirks of being the place to have some inspirational moments. It only seems fitting that we share these moments with you! So far the EP will consist of four songs. New recording tools, methods and techniques will be utilized and we are excited of the things to come!

Stay tuned for updates!
Static Limittag:staticlimitband.com,2005:Post/72259002023-06-13T14:26:07-05:002023-10-16T09:57:23-05:00We're back on stage!
We’re happy to announce that we are returning to the stage on June 24th at the Alloy Mixed Metal show in Harlingen TX. Here's a note from Rom:

"It is a long over due show! We are ready! We have new music & can’t wait to play for you all! Half of the setlist for this upcoming show will be from the latest album (Existentia). Furthermore, the duties within SL has changed since our last live show. Myself & Justin decided to change roles such that I will be handling the guitars while Justin will handling the keyboards. Our time slot is still yet to be determined, but rest assured that we will update you as soon as we know.

So it will be a new SL debut on Saturday 6/24. New songs, new roles, new merch, new SL logo, new live gear…a show we are eager to share with you all. Don’t miss it!

Thank you for being here!
Greetings from Static Limit land! Here is note from Rom!

"Hi everyone! As the year comes to an end, I want to thank you for your support. A very special thank you to all who purchased our latest album "Existentia". I had a great time producing it and may it continue to give you enjoyment for many years to come. 2023 is a few days away and we continue to prepare for live shows. Our sights are on Cine El Rey McAllen TX, The Eatery Downtown Weslaco TX and El Hop Shop Harlingen TX. We're planning on hitting those stages with other Rio Grande Valley TX prog rock/metal bands. We're so looking forward to be playing live music for you all again 2023!

Additional plans for the upcoming new year are recording & releasing an EP in the last quarter or so. Keep an eye out for home studio updates as they will be available in our social media. It is always a blast writing and recording.

Other projects within the band are downsizing our live rigs. Taking a modular & smaller approach will help us travel conveniently and make it easier to travel farther. Going smaller, but not sacrificing great tones and sounds. Sounding the best we can is always a high priority for us.

So stay tuned! We got great things coming!

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year and we hope to see you all soon!" - Rom
Static Limittag:staticlimitband.com,2005:Post/69821532022-05-28T15:25:18-05:002022-12-29T11:00:47-06:00Listen to Rom & Diana on Eclectic Soundtrax Podcast
Listen to Rom and Diana on the Eclectic Soundtrax Podcast where they talk about:

Rom says this about the track, “This was the second song I wrote as the writing process continued for this album. It comes from the idea having an opening track that immediately comes out swinging, loud, full of energy, heavy, progressive, …then later goes into duel soloing & unisons/harmonies. This track also has a riff that turns our head bangin’ level to eleven!.”
Static Limittag:staticlimitband.com,2005:Post/67901752021-10-29T02:16:33-05:002022-03-19T00:49:40-05:00'A Priori' has arrived!!
Static Limit – release “A Priori” the first single from the upcoming album ‘Existentia’

Rom says this about the track, “This was the fourth song I wrote as the writing process continued for this album. It comes from the idea of having a simple, digestable, groovy & catchy theme.
Static Limit continues to have progress on their new album entitled EXISTENTIA. Here is a note from Rom:

“Static Limit new album mixing is coming along great! Josh Lopez at Windowmaker Studios is just about done doing his magic. We've been rough drafting cover art concepts and looking at candidate artists and graphic artists. 2021 is shaping up to be the year! Sadly there’s still no concrete plans to perform our new music to a live audience as we all patiently wait for the world to re-open, but at least this year will have the new SL music of EXISTENTIA...all of which I couldn’t be prouder of!

I am grateful to be able to work with amazing musicians and produce wonderful music! 🙏 Stay tuned for updates and thank you so much for your support.” – Rom
Static Limittag:staticlimitband.com,2005:Post/64576262020-10-16T19:20:48-05:002022-03-19T00:50:18-05:00New Album Update #4

Static Limit continues to finish up the remaining tracks on the sophomore album entitled EXISTENTIA. Here is a short interview with Diana Marie:

How is the 2nd Static Limit Album coming together?

The 2nd album is going great. I was immediately excited when Rom showed us his ideas. By the time I had to start recording, most of all the other instrument parts were already established and mapped out so there was definitely pressure for me to figure out my parts and deliver. Of course, there were a few bumps in the road last year that temporarily stopped me from being able to focus on the music. However, as soon as I was back physically and mentally, I used this 2nd album as motivation to get me back to where I was before. I had to shake off the rust, quick.

You’ve been recording bass on the album, while dealing with a pandemic. What is that like?

Recording bass during the pandemic has had its challenges. The guys in the band are very goal oriented so we mapped out a timeline of goals we needed to meet by a certain date. Of course, life doesn’t care about your plans and we were hit by COVID, so our timeline had to change. At first I was relieved because the pressure of learning the songs and recording wasn’t there anymore. I had a bit more time to adjust working from home and continuing working on the songs . However, being home all the time wasn’t so productive and threw my routine out of wack. If I didn’t plan to sit down learn and record, days could pass without making much progress. I had to snap out of it and fight myself because being home so much warped my sense of time and of course, the uncertainty what was to come, in regards to COVID-19, put recording on the back burner at times for me. I learned I thrive on pressure and without it I slacked off a bit. I recorded 4/5 of the album with Rom before the pandemic hit. We had one more song to go when we got to the point where we just could not see each other anymore. Luckily for us my significant other, Bert Cantu, has had experience recording local bands, so recording bass for the last song was something we could do from a distance. I would not have been able to do it without his help. The song is 16 minutes long so we took our time, riff by riff, to get a solid track. We’re just about finished.

What are the plans for Static Limit for the rest of 2020 and beyond?

Our plans for static limit 2020 and beyond is getting ready for live shows! Nothing makes you appreciate the stage like a half year dry spell. I think before when we had our first string of shows, we were new to the scene and maybe a bit timid. Now after this, we definitely have a chance to get our act together and bring it better than before. Especially with the 2nd album recorded and most likely available when we start to play live, I know others will dig the tunes just as much as we do. I look forward to making new friends and memories along the way . Just enjoying the musician life.
Static Limittag:staticlimitband.com,2005:Post/63504692020-06-11T19:29:39-05:002021-10-24T19:05:31-05:00Update from our Shelters

Greetings… not from our usual blogs, but this time from our living rooms, bedrooms, and basements or wherever you happen to be socially separated. As many of you know, this continues to be an obviously different time, and leaving the house now literally means taking your life or other lives in your hands. Unfortunately, in these surreal times, that means we have to stay away from each other for the foreseeable future before we can start thinking about finishing the remaining Static Limit tracks.

We’re continuing to put safety first, self-isolating and socially distancing, but not forever! With that said, the remaining tracks are in the process of being muscled memorized and we’ll be hitting the home studio as soon as things clear up.

In the meantime, continue hanging with your significant others, kids, pets, parents… whomever you have in your space. Create your streaming playlists, watch some movies, try some games, and most importantly, stay safe. We’ll continue to keep in touch!

Static Limit continues to green check off the parts to be tracked on their new album entitled EXISTENTIA. Here is a note from Rom:

“Static Limit new album recordings are coming along great. We’ve tracked 6 songs and I can’t wait for you all to hear the final product this year. I believe it is a fun roller coaster of ride to listen to. The bass tracks are the only parts left and Diana Marie is working hard to complete them. She completed a couple songs recently and steadily we’ll continue on the remaining bass tracks. New guitar gear I incorporated is a Legator Ghost for all the metal rhythm riffin and majority of the leads. Other new gear is a Countryman DI box which will allows us to later reamp and achieve the best guitar and bass tones possible for the record. Furthermore, gear previously used on ATAM was incorporated on this new record. The Jackson neck thru in C standard using 12’s (tore up my finger tips) and the Ibanez Universe (single coil cleans sweetness). Once the remaining tracks are completed, I’m also excited to announce that they will be sent to Josh Lopez at Widowmaker Studios in Mcallen, TX to be mixed and mastered. Josh is well known in our region for mixing and mastering great sounding metal singles, EP’s and albums. So yes, Existentia will definitely be more metal than its predecessor ATAM, but still definitely progressive. We’re hoping for a Summer 2020 release and live shows should soon follow. Stay tuned for updates and thank you so much for your support.” – Rom
Static Limittag:staticlimitband.com,2005:Post/62053102019-10-09T22:10:00-05:002020-02-05T22:48:19-06:00New Album Update #2

”I am happy to announce that the 2nd Static Limit album is written. We are very pleased with our compositions on EXISTENTIA. We explored new sounds and scales which we didn’t get to implement on A THING ABOUT MACHINES. Currently, we are preparing ourselves to record final tracks in the home studio(s) this Fall. Hopefully the album will be mixed and mastered and ready for your ears in 2020. Live dates should be appearing on our facebook page & announced to our mailing list subscribers before the release date.
Hi everyone! When ATAM was released I still had so many ideas that I didn’t get a chance to explore As a result I have an overabundance of ideas on our songwriting table ; in fact, the writing involves so much that it is overtaxing my 2012 macbook pro. Yes, I will eventually upgrade but it doesn’t stop the creative outlet, even though I occasionally get CPU spikes. Furthermore, my new home studio is barely in the planning stages, and that doesn’t stop production. I’m continuing to use Mark of the Unicorn’s Digital Performer 9 as our main digital audio workstation, which is great for the audio and MIDI integrated environment we need to produce/demo Static Limit music. On the upcoming second album you will hear both preset and custom sounds from IK Multimedia’s Sample Tank, spectrasonics omnisphere, and an assortment of loops and dialog samples from various developers. Other tools used for our latest demos have been produced with the help of Toontrack Superior Drummer plugin. Stop by our Facebook page and listen to our video previews. More previews are in the plans and will be made available as they are completed. We just need about 5 to 8 more minutes of music to be composed and our 2nd album is written. Soon after, as our schedules permit, we’ll commence recording the final tracks. Recording & demoing with today’s technology is so convenient! We are having a blast working on our 2nd full length album. – Rom
Static Limittag:staticlimitband.com,2005:Post/62057022018-08-21T19:57:00-05:002020-02-06T16:52:16-06:00Save the dates!
We know some of you like to mark calendars in advance, so we’re here to add more dates for 2018.
With a new outlook on the 2nd album, we are also considering methods of recording that is new to us. One method is re-amping guitars and making use of the services of Widowmaker Studios in McAllen, Texas.
We are so psyched and proud to share the news that we are welcoming Diana Marie Dehoyos into to the SL fold!

We’ve all known, and have been familiar with Marie’s musical work since early 2012 as she is a part of the Instrumental Rock / Metal band Verene Serene. We got to know Marie when we rehearsed in the nearby rehearsal space where Verene rehearsed too. We were impressed by Marie’s finger bass style and her very cool vibe. We’ve taken a long time to find the right bass player for us. Obviously being a good bass player is important but it was also very important that whoever we found would fit in. We wanted someone we can gel with, not just a substitute bass player.

When Marie jammed with us, we all felt a very good chemistry between the four of us. It was just something that we could not describe, we all just knew it. It was the first time we performed the songs with all musical parts. I told everyone right after the jam, that the songs sounded amazing!! said Rom.

We’re excited with new energy, new vibes and looking forward to continuing to evolve. Having Marie here, and her choosing to become a part of the SL family, will enable us to get to yet another level. So welcome Diana Marie!
Static Limittag:staticlimitband.com,2005:Post/62053482017-03-27T23:10:00-05:002021-06-14T14:20:02-05:00Long Overdue Blog UPDATE!

Hi everyone, Rom here and I am really really REALLY excited for the potential of our first live show. No set date yet, but rehearsals are going well.

Who are the guest musicians taking part in these rehearsals you may ask. I’m happy announce that they are Drummer John Garcia (best know for his extreme drumming work in Texas Death Metal Band SLOW GRIND) and Guitarist Justin Garza (cover guitarist extraordinaire from McAllen, TX). I am honored and fortunate to have John and Justin take part in Static Limit. I’ve worked with them before in other band projects and they are great bandmates. They bring an abundance of ideas and fresh looks on putting together a live show. I’m very appreciative of their hard work and commitment in helping to bring you live performances of ATAM and ole classic demo songs from 2003.

As far as a bassist is concerned, we are continuing to search for candidates. Unfortunately, the last couple candidates didn’t workout. On a positive note, while our searching continues, I have been providing the bass parts so our rehearsals can continue to be productive.

As most of you know, we all have lives, jobs & families outside of band projects. Sometimes rehearsals are postponed, but progress slowly but surely continues. So far, 2/3rds of our setlist has been learned. Our motivations come from the enjoyment of prog metal/rock music, playing live and bringing smiles to people’s faces.

In other SL news, album number two production really got a boost this past winter with great new tools added to my home studio. Two new song demos have been completed and song number three has begun. It is exciting to work on the sophomore record, as everything you didn’t get to do in the first album can now be done in the second. So do keep an eye out for audio samples by following us on social media. The first audio sample is already available on the Static Limit FB page and Instagram.

We feel great, we’re getting ready & preparing ourselves. Many notes have been learned. Life sometimes throws ya curve balls but we know we can succeed if we adapt and execute. \m/
Static Limittag:staticlimitband.com,2005:Post/62057082016-03-01T18:34:04-06:002022-05-28T05:40:33-05:00Static Limit Release Statement Regarding Mar
Static Limit Release Statement Regarding Mar

Here is short note from Rom:

“Hello Everyone –
I’m writing this to inform you all that Static Limit will be moving forward without Mar Rivera Jr. Mar has been a great drummer for Static Limit since the beginning. I’m and will always be grateful to him for his contributions. Mar’s life has changed and felt he can no longer put any time into being a drummer.
Having our sights set on bringing you live Static Limit shows, here is an update from Rom from the world of synthesizers:

Programming sounds and relearning what was recorded is coming along great. I still have many of the patches used on ATAM, so not as much work sound designing. In order to streamline the live synth gear, I opted to used a MacBook Pro, MOTU audio interface, Apples Mainstage 3, IK Multimedia SampleTank 3, Omnisphere and the Novation Impulse61 as the master midi controller. All these tools so far are sounding great and allowing me to prepare with ease. So looking forward to sharing our show with you all! Stay tuned because Mar is putting together a video of me recording as well as updating the website. We have some big goals for 2011, which include live shows, so please spread the word.”

Happy New Year 2010! This Static Limit update brings us the great news that the drum tracks for “A Thing About Machines” are complete. Here’s a short note from Mar:

“It’s been a long road getting here, but the drum studio sessions are finally done! A HUGE thanks to Joe and his dad at MP Recording studios in Weslaco for all their hard work. Even before the final mix, I can already tell that the drums are going to sound phenomenal. You guys will not be disappointed! Jay and Rom have also been treading along recording their bass and guitar parts as well, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground for more updates from them. Thanks for sticking with us and stay tuned for more studio updates!”

Here’s a short note from Rom:

“Hey guys and gals. Sorry it’s been so long since we’ve had an update, but this time it’s a good one. Over the past few months we’ve been recording guitars at Orange Meda Studio in downtown McAllen, TX. I’m excited to report that about two-thirds of the guitar tracks have been recorded. Much time was spent on working out the right electric guitars, acoustic guitars, string gauges and amp settings. Some insight as to what gear I’ve used so far are Mesa Boogie, TC Electronics, Marshall, Jackson guitars, PRS guitars, Ernie Ball guitars, Schecter guitars, Dunlop Wahs…and possibly more gear will be added to the list in the near future. We’ve included a mockumentary entitled “Inside the Static Studio.” Click here to view. The video is about of the guitar recording sessions. Thanks for your support, interest and most of all your patience. Till next time. Enjoy the video!”

Static Limit continues to periodically descend upon the downtown Weslaco, TX area to record their debut original album. The big, shiny red button was pushed and Mar laid down the next drum tracks on his Pearl ELX. The second video of his drum sessions is now available.
This past weekend, Static Limit entered the studio and laid down the drums for two songs. They will be recording ATAM at MP Recording in nearby Weslaco, Texas. If you visit their website, you can actually see pics of the drumset Mar used for these two tracks! Plus, Mar’s been up all night putting together a short video for you guys, so make sure you check it out in the Downloads section. Here’s a short note from Mar:

“Hey guys, we’re knee-deep in it now! This past weekend I was able to knock out both PU-36 and Caprica in the studio. Since these two songs are dynamically different than everything else on the album, we chose to use the studio’s house set to help distinguish the drum sound from the other tracks. I’m playing on a Tama Starclassic with a Porkpie snare. These drums have a deeper timbre than my Pearl ELX set and we felt they would fit perfectly with the tone of PU-36 and Caprica. Enjoy the video!” – Mar

Static Limittag:staticlimitband.com,2005:Post/62057312007-04-15T22:12:19-05:002020-02-06T17:26:20-06:00In The Studio
This just in, Static Limit has finished writing A THING ABOUT MACHINES. Here is a note from Jay:

”I am happy to announce that the Static Limit album is written. It took us a while but we are very pleased with the way it turned out. Our next step is to lay it down in the studio(s) this summer so you guys can hear it in a few months. We have been rehearsing the album so our first live date should be appearing on our myspace page soon. Things will be moving a lot faster now that the writing part is out of the way, so check back often. I think Mar will be putting up some of the new artwork shortly, but for now here’s the track list:” – Jay

A quick update of what is going on in the world of STATIC LIMIT. Here is the update from Rom:

“Summer ’06 was a very productive time for us and progress is moving along great. Currently, we are now busy rehearsing and fine tuning “A Thing About Machines.” In regards to gear, we’ve made some cool additions since our last update. We’ve upgraded our sequencer to MOTU Digital Performer 5, added a new dual processor Mac iBook and Mar upgraded to playing a “hybrid drum-set.” The new drum-set is made up of a brand new Pearl ELX 6-Pc and the Roland TD-10 and V-Drum pads. IK Multimedia’s Sample Tank 2 is continuing to be a great tool, it is allowing us to experiment and design some very cool usual and unusual synth tones. In a nutshell, “A Thing About Machines” is taking shape and we are very excited. Well, that’s all for now. Thanks for your support and interest! Till next time!” – Rom

A home for officially unreleased Static Limit material is now in the downloads section. Here is some insight from Rom about the first song available and reasons behind “Jamz from the Ergosphere”:

“Hello everyone, we are all excited to announce that we have some new music to share! “Jamz from the Ergosphere”…What is this??? Well, this is a special place in our downloads section where we intend to upload officially unreleased Static Limit songs. As with most creative projects, we encountered a “musical overflow” during the writing process. Due to data space constraints we will share this overflow with you as it becomes available. Having no plans to make a debut double disk set nor any intentions of using current overflow material on future albums, we felt this was the best way to present the material we’ve completed. So, without further ado, first song to be added to the Jamz, is “THE MACHINED.” This rough drafted song is a direct product from our “A THING ABOUT MACHINES” writing sessions. So check it out, download it into your computer and into your ears…it has many moments…some of them are dark, surreal, rockin and groovy. Lastly, let me close out by saying, that “A THING ABOUT MACHINES” is slowly but surely progressing and we are all look forward to sharing our debut album with everyone in the coming future. Till next time.” – Rom

They know it’s been hard for you to stick with them without knowing what they have been working on. Here is a note from Jay:

“Earlier in the CD writing process we invested some time doing a lot research on the styles, techniques, and technologies we were interested in. As a result we have an overabundance of ideas on our songwriting table; in fact, the method in which we are writing involves so much intense multitasking it’s overtaxing my G4. To remedy this situation I had to upgrade the studio computer’s processor, RAM, hard drive, and plug ins engine. We use Mark of the Unicorn’s Digital Performer as our main sequencer, which is great for the audio and MIDI integrated environment we need to produce Static Limit music. On the final CD you will hear both preset and custom sounds from IK Multimedia’s Sample Tank 2, along with an assortment of loops and dialog samples from various developers. The plug-ins we are using includes the MOTU’s MAS bundle, Apple’s core audio units suite, and TC Electronics Powercore farm card collection. Rom and I write on the Macintosh platform via Digital Performer 4 while Mar writes on his PC using Steinberg’s Cubase SX as our schedule permits. After a member is done with the conductor track we all get together and finalize the other parts in the studio, which is where the magic happens. Writing this way is pretty chaotic sometimes, but we are having a blast working on our debut CD.” – Jay
